Improving Official Statistics

IAOS (International Association for Official Statistics) is an association founded in 1985. It is an international non-governmental organization (NGO), which was created and developed as a specialized section of the International Statistical Institute (ISI). It is a voluntary organization whose members are scattered around the globe, mostly doing a full time job, rarely meeting and supported by a very small office.
The objectives of the Association shall be to promote the understanding and advancement of official statistics and related subjects and to foster the development of effective and efficient official statistical services through international contacts among individuals and organizations, including users of official statistics as well as research institutes.

IAOS congratulates Gemma Van Halderen, for her Public Service Medal awarded in the 2024 Australian Day Honours. Gemma was recognised for outstanding public service in delivering significant statistical developments for better use of data for public policy purposes, both in Australia and internationally. Part of the award is in recognition of Gemma’s work in nurturing and developing early career statisticians and data professionals.
