IAOS members attending the 2025 WSC in The Hague are invited to attend the meeting of the IAOS Krakow Working Group (KWG) on trust, misuse and ethics. This meeting to be held on Thursday 9 October from 9.30 – 10.30 am in the Colorado Room, aims to gather member feedback on proposals for future work.
The KWG was established to provide a forum to address the evolving challenges to official statistics posed by the “datafication” of societies. Since its founding, the Group has held a series of brainstorming sessions involving stakeholders from different backgrounds. .
The co-chairs, Martine Durand and Jan Robert Suesser, will report on the main outcomes of these sessions on the topics of:
- interactions with non-official data providers;
- engaging with users and addressing misuse and misinformation; and
- ethical issues in data and statistics.
They will then outline proposals for future work that would concentrate on enhanced engagement with non-official actors from diverse horizons (private sector, data scientists, media/fact-checkers, research community and other users, etc).
Input from IAOS members will help shape the future direction of the KWG work programme over the 2025- 27 period and your attendance is encouraged.
