Mr. Rolando Ocampo - IAOS Representative to 2017 WSC Scientific Program Committee

He has an Actuarial Science degree at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM for its acronym in Spanish). He studied the Master of General Statistics at the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain, as well as a Masters in Economics of Education and Labor at the Carlos III University from the same city.


From 1984-1989 he worked at the Department of Statistics of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI for its acronym in Spanish) and in 1994 he was in charge at the same Institution of Methodologies, Analysis and Procedures Coordination, implementing the Purchasing Power Parities Program (PPP), coordinated internationally by the OECD; and the International Comparison Program coordinated by ECLAC. From 1997 to 1999 he was Director General of GAUSSC. From January 2001 to 2004 he was Director General of Public Opinion of the Presidency of the Republic; and in 2005 he was Undersecretary of Sectorial Policy of the Ministry of Agrarian Reform. Later, in 2006, he served as Chief Director of the National Agrarian Registry (RAN). From 2007 to March 2013, he was Director General of the Center for Latin American Intelligence (CILA for its acronym in Spanish), alternatively, from 2008 to March 2013 he served at HOMEX as Head of the land reserve and government relations, for the central region of the country. In March 20, 2013 he was appointed Vice-President of INEGI’s Government Board, in charge of the Geographic and the Environment Information Subsystem. From August of that same year, he chairs the Regional Committee of the United Nations on Global Geospatial Information Management for the Americas (UN-GGIM: Americas), and Co-Chairs the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management since August 2015. He also Co-Chairs the Expert Group on Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information and became elected member of the ISI on 2014, served as IAOS representative to the Scientific Program Committee of the World Statistics Congress of Rio de Janeiro 2015 and once again serves as IAOS representative to the SPC for the Marrakech 2017 WSC. Since June 2014 he is Mexico’s Principal for the Group on Earth Observations (GEO).
