The International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) is pleased to invite you to attend the IAOS President Special Session “Walking through Previously Uncharted Territories: Governance, Crime and Drug Statistics” that will be held on Tuesday, 20 August 2019 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (Conference Hall 1, Level 3) from 8:50-10:40.

The session will present and discuss recent progress in the measurement of governance, crime and drug-related phenomena, subjects that have not traditionally been measured by National Statistical Offices (NSOs). Among other instruments, the particular analysis of victimization surveys as a salient statistical instrument for the measurement of crime will be analysed. International organisations –such as UN ESCAP- will describe the work they are conducting to support countries to improve their methodologies and harmonize their measurement of crime, drug statistics and governance in line with UN statistical roadmaps and the statistical global framework for SDG monitoring.

This panel will give an opportunity to exchange views on the collection, analysis and use of data on these complex phenomena.
